Vincent Kompany leaves post as Anderlecht manager
Former Belgium and Manchester City defender leaves after two years in charge
Vincent Kompany has left Anderlecht after two years as manager, the Belgian club announced on Wednesday. The 36-year-old took over at Anderlecht in May 2020, but has been unable to guide the club to a major trophy during his time in charge. Anderlecht finished third in the Belgian First Division A in Kompany's first season, and fourth in the following campaign. They also exited the Champions League in the qualifying rounds in both seasons, and were knocked out of the Europa League in the group stage in 2020-21. Kompany, who made over 300 appearances for Manchester City during his playing career, is now expected to take a break from management.
