Broncos Inform Quarterback Of Release

Russell Wilson's Tenure with Broncos Ends After One Season

Broncos Inform Quarterback of Release

The Russell Wilson era in Denver came to an abrupt end on Monday, March 4, 2024, after just one season. The Broncos informed the quarterback that he would be released, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Wilson's Legacy with the Broncos

Wilson, a nine-time Pro Bowl selection and Super Bowl champion with the Seattle Seahawks, was acquired by the Broncos in a blockbuster trade in 2022. The move was intended to revitalize a struggling franchise, but things did not go as planned.

In his lone season in Denver, Wilson threw for 3,524 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. The Broncos finished with a disappointing 5-12 record under Wilson's leadership.

Broncos' Future at Quarterback

With Wilson's departure, the Broncos are left with a void at the quarterback position. Drew Lock, Teddy Bridgewater, and Brett Rypien are among the candidates who could compete for the starting role in 2024.

The Broncos also have the option of selecting a quarterback in the upcoming NFL Draft. C.J. Stroud, Bryce Young, and Anthony Richardson are considered top prospects at the position.

Broncos' Outlook

The release of Wilson marks a significant setback for the Broncos, who were hoping to build around the veteran quarterback. The team now faces an uncertain future at the most important position on the field.

Until they can find a suitable replacement for Wilson, the Broncos may struggle to compete in a competitive AFC West division.
